fun @ drink-n-draw

¡dpm! had a blast last Friday at 3rd Ward’s Drink-n-Draw with our fellow vendor friends The Sisters Three Coffee. We were amazed at how many people came out for a night of serious drawing! If you haven’t yet attended one, it’s worth it for the good vibes, good models, and (…) beer. Here’s a schedule of upcoming Drink-n-Draws. Photos from the Overdrive here…and check out this nice shout-out from Brooklyn Exposed!

“we don’t want to get too competitive with the pie makers…”

Here we are, virtually chatting with Mo Rocca about empanadas ¡dpm! on food(ography)’s PIE episode, which aired on the Cooking Channel on November 7, 2010.

“cuando querés empanadas como las de tu mamá…”

“…no viajes lejos porque s’encuentran acá…”

A bit of musical reminiscing: ¡dpm! commercial número uno.

Senate bill S.510: the touchy subject of regulating food…

While working on another project, ¡dpm! became aware of an upcoming Senate bill: S. 510, FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. Many small farming groups and organic food enthusiasts are worried about the effect of this bill on local and small farm production. Most telling (we think) is the list of those in favor of and opposed to the bill: big business vs. local and sustainable organizations, in almost every case. It’s a touchy subject, to be sure. Do we further regulate food production for fear of food born illnesses, or do we support the raw milk movement? Are we even focusing on the right things with this bill, or should we be addressing why there are so many food born illnesses in the first place (ahem ahem industrialized food production)? If you feel like nudging your local elected representatives in one way or another, read up on this bill. You can watch a great 90 second summary here, and read more about the bill here. Additional video commentary here.

Watch ¡dpm! on the Cooking Channel! 11.07.2010 @9pm

In July, the Cooking Channel sent a (six person!) crew to our little kitchen in Williamsburg to film ¡dpm! in action for an episode on pies (empanadas = hand pies?!) for Mo Rocca’s show, Food(ography).

The show airs this Sunday, November 7th at 9pm. Watch us on TV!
